how many flower arrangements are in a wedding?

Sunday, March 7th, 2010

Me and my fiance r starting to look for a florist and want to know of how many arrangements we need

That is entirely up to you. First you need to get an idea of how you want to decorate the place of your reception and go from there–will you have a head table, do you want something on each table, etc. If this is for the wedding that is again up to you, I personally like the arch, the kneeling bench with two gigantic flower arrangements on either side and palms behind the arch. Depends on size of church, I also like something small with a candle in each window. Of course, do you want all bridesmaids to have same bouquet or single stemmed flower and the maid/matron of honor to have something different, your bouquet and the no. of boutinerres you will need. Also, corsages for Mother of Bride and Groom, and Grandmothers and any other special person you might want to single out, Also bouts for Fathers and Grandfathers. For corsages of Mothers and Grandmothers, I prefer a corsage (wrist for Mothers and pin on for Grandmothers, not too big) prefer colors of flowers to co-ordinate with their outfits, does not have to match, but something compatible rather than the colors you use in the wedding. I cannot imagine an orange or red or purple corsage on a pale pink, blue or peach colored dress. Good luck.

What are some raffle ideas?

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

Someone’s husband at my job is terminally ill, and we are trying to raise money for them. We already have a basket of wines and cheese, flower arrangements, and a dinner for two. Does anyone have anymore ideas for things to raffle.

Depending where your from, anything related to sports, like
ballgame tickets, and signed items from a local or national team
always do well. , also movie tickets, gift cards, and tickets to a local concert. Just ask for donations anywhere, even a grocery store will donate if you just ask. good luck!!

I’ve found these pictures somehow along my internet exploring to find the perfect wedding details… they’re really cute! these little balls of flower arrangements that hang off the end of the chairs, what are they called? (In order for me to search for them) and where do you usually buy them/find them? Anywhere that does floral arrangements? Any idea how expensive they are?

Secondly:

the little pink flowers in the brides and bridesmaid bouquets, what are they called? I have no idea when it comes to flowers so its going to be hard to describe what I want if I dont know what it is lol. Thanks a bunch.

The ball is called a pomander bouquet or a kissing ball and the pink flowers are pink plumerias (pink frangipani).

What is the best way to care for gerberas in a flower arrangement? (Please read details!)?

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

My daughter’s first birthday party is this Saturday and I wanted to get pink Gerberas for the tables, but I am not the best with plants and flowers and keeping things alive… Am I completely safe to get the flowers the night before so I have less to do the morning of the party? Will they still look firm and fresh? Also – what should I put them in (besides water)…or basically, how do YOU care for flower arrangements?

Thank you!!!

Gerberas are notorious for being the first ones to go in an arrangement of mixed flowers. Sure you can buy them the day before the party and they will last overnight if the florist hasn’t’ had them for a while before selling them.
What I do is when I get them home I cut all the stems about 1" at an angle. Then if the florist has given you a packet of flower life extender then I add that to fresh warm water and immediately place the freshly cut flowers in. If you don’t get the extender then you can use 7-UP or an aspirin in the water with one drop of bleach to prevent algae. Then I re-cut the flowers everyday and add fresh water.
Happy birthday to your daughter!
