What flowers smell strongly or bad? What should I avoid in flower arrangements?

I am making flower arrangements for my wedding. I want to know which common flowers smell strongly so I can avoid them. For example, daisies tend to have a bad (IMO) smell and gardenias smell good but are strong.

Note: I don’t mean exotic flowers like the rotting corpse flower or other things not sold in a flower shop.

Lilies can be a bit cloying if there are multiples in your arrangements. Freesia’s have a gentle smell as do tulips. Roses vary, some are overpowering and others are gentle. I suggest you go to a florist and give them all a sniff. It will also depend on the time of year what flowers are available.

I don’t know of anything from a florist that would smell bad. Tell the florist the kinds of things you have in mind for the arrangements and ask if you can smell some samples yourself. They won’t mind.
