Fresh vs Artificial/Silk flowers for a wedding?
To save some costs I’ve been considering using silk flowers for my bridal party.
My brother & his wife used them for theirs and a friend of hers did the flowers, they were very nice and you really couldn’t tell the difference if you didn’t know and well.. I still have my bm bouquet 7 years later.
What I have been thinking of doing is using artificial flowers for the bridesmaids & brides bouquets and the decorations at the church and using fresh flowers for the mens boutonnieres and ladies corsages and fresh flowers for the centerpieces at the reception.
I’m not sure how much a savings that really would be or if I’d be better off just doing fresh flowers for it all?
I know to save on costs I could get fresh flowers from places like Sam’s Club, Costco and other bulk/wholesale places, but I don’t know the first thing about arranging flowers, I’m not all that crafty.
I really think that this is a once in a life time thing. I’m not saying splurge on expensive flowers but I do think that you should pay a little bit more and get all real flowers. I think if you have some real and some silk that you will be able to tell the difference. I know saving money is important (im planing my own wedding) but I recommend using real flowers. They look better and can be arranged so pretty. I guess its up to you. I would recommend having a florist arrange a set of real flowers and an identical set of silk flowers and you look at them and decide what you think will look best for you special day!

I am debating this as well. The cheapest I could find fresh flower bouquets for was $18.00 each, and that was significantly below all the other quotes. At Micheal’s crafts, they have pre-made bouquets that are roses with ribbon wrapped stems, and those are $12.99. Honestly, the fake flowers look better than some real bouquets I’ve seen at weddings. The only problem is that they only have red and white, so if you want something else you will have to make it, and you say that you aren’t so crafty.
Definitely do fresh flowers for the centerpieces, your guests will be close to these and see them the most.

My sister in law bought her flowers two days before her wedding at the downtown LA flower mart for hardly anything considering the price of a florist. She kept them watered and refrigerated (at many different locations) until the night before the wedding when we all worked into the night stripping all of the leaves off of them. The next morning we made different but cohesive arrangements and decorated the venue with them. They looked gorgeous, I was impressed.
I don’t know where you live but if you live near a metropolis area you can find flowers for a steal. Mixing them with real is a great idea because it’s eco friendly and it will make the fake flowers look real. Good luck!

I used silk flowers- mainly because I was DEAD SET on having a blue and white cascade arrangement and the cheapest ‘real’ flower quote for ANY arrangement with blue flowers came to $70!
I was able to find some silk hydrangeas and white lilies and white daffodils at a craft shop, teamed with some artificial trailing ivy and LOTS of experimentation I was able to get my blue and white cascade for just under $20!

I have been going back and forth on this as well. I found a few articles that go over silk flowers and budget weddings. I think it might really be worth it in the long run… plus you’ll have a keepsake lol
