How do you prevent someone from stealing flowers in your garden?

Flower bandit strikes again! Glad to know someone admires my work in the front yard, but I discovered, for the second time; that someone is clipping my impatients, begonias, and lillies for their own flower arranging. It’s scary to think that someone has been casing my house, but even worse that they’re that close to my front door. What else are they looking for? What I need to know is some real life tips on how to prevent this from happening again. They’ve clipped one begonia so badly, I don’t think it will bounce back… Barbed wire? Booby trap? Make the homeowners association aware? Has anyone else experienced this before, and if so, what action did you take?

Bear traps, lots of bear traps, and hide them with some leaves and grasses….kidding…..
Yes, tell the home owners assoc. , get some of those ‘this house is protected by xxx security company’ type of signs, also you may put in motion sensor lights, because this is probably happening in the middle of the night. I also like the other guys idea of a web cam or maybe even just a video camera for the day hours when you are away at work. Many people have caught thieves from just setting up video cameras. And get out their and talk to your neighbors! Even if they aren’t in the association they could at least let you know if they see anyone around your house (or if they are the guilty party, by you just going up to them and letting them know you are on the lookout for thieves, it may just freak them out a little and scare them into not stealing again)

I had the neighbors kids stealing my flowers and I video taped them from a 2nd floor camera overlooking the garden. When talking to the parents proved ineffective, the police were of great help!

Just today I had someone snip off all of my flowers right by my front door! This isn’t the first time this has happened to me! I actually saw the woman do it from a window in my home! By the time I thought…could this really be happening…till the time I got to the door, she had gotten in her car and drove off….I don’t know what to do either….I called the police dept. feeling kinda silly for doing so, and they said it’s trespassing and theft and they told me to call back every time it happens so it can be documented. I just hope I can catch her red handed with my camera next time!
